OUR FOUNDER
Grayston-hanshi is first generation Kaiso (founder) of Shindo-Ryu Karate-Do. He is also President and Senior Master to Zen Eikoku Shindo-Ryu Karate-Do Renmei. He started training in Karate-Do in 1964, and founded the Shindo style of Karate in 1984 because he felt the Japanese/Okinawan styles of Karate-Do lacked a western perspective. He toured Japan in 2004 giving examples of Shindo-Ryu Karate-Do and has also received a letter of commendation from the Embassy of Japan (UK).
He is also President of Kodo Butoku Renmei (Old Ways Martial Virtues Federation). Both organisations have very senior ranked martial artists from many disciplines around the world as members.
He says, "the real art of Karate-Do is in the knowledge and enablement that we can give to students. There is no one knowledge – as there is no one fruit… or one type of food. Knowledge accumulates over the years and builds into a library."
